In today’s non-stop world it can be difficult to find a balance between work and play, even when you’re living and/or working in the largest city in the state. Manchester, New Hampshire offers such diversity when it comes to dining, shopping and entertainment it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the plethora of options. Even with all of the options available, many people don’t realize some of the hidden gems the city has to offer.

Looking for a quiet, easy hike in nature but don’t want to travel far? The Manchester Cedar Swamp Preserve plays host to 1.8 miles of trails, including 3 loop trails, through the cedar swamp, giant rhododendron, cinnamon fern and more.

Nature not your thing? Manchester boasts a number of museums, including both art and science. Visit the Currier Museum of Art either during the day or, for something different, visit during one of their “Currier After Hours” events. You can even tour the only Frank Lloyd Wright house open to the public in New England (with reservations made ahead of time, of course).

The SEE Science Center is another great place for some interactive learning in downtown Manchester’s historic millyard. The Center focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and including exhibits relating to electricity and magnetism and biology.

Don’t forget to check out one of the entertainment venues. Whether you prefer the smaller intimate feeling of The Palace Theater where you can take in shows such as “Beauty and the Beast” or “Peter Pan” or you’re in the mood for something a little bit larger like Cirque du Soleil Crystal at the SNHU Arena on Elm Street, there’s something for everyone. On the weekends, live music is in no shortage along downtown Manchester’s Elm Street and in the millyard. Local bands, soloists and even ukulele groups can be found playing at restaurants and bars throughout the city.

Manchester’s workforce is diverse and ever-changing. The city plays host to businesses ranging from tech-startups to financial centers; real estate firms to manufacturing plants; and hospitals to airlines. Manchester also houses 9 different institutes of higher learning throughout the city, including Southern New Hampshire University, Granite State College, The New Hampshire Institute of Art and Saint Anselm College among others.
